Why is Maryland’s Weather So Bi-Polar?(E-88)

What is it with Maryland weather?

They say that Annapolis is in a weather bubble and what happens in Baltimore or DC stays in Baltimore or DC. Downpour in Crofton; sunny in Annapolis. Freezing in Deale; flowers blooming in Glen Burnie.

With the weather so seemingly unpredictable, we wanted to talk to George Young from DMV Wether to see what it was all about.

DMV Weather is the exclusive weather partner for the Eye On Annapolis Daily News Brief and you can hear George’s forecast every Monday through Friday at 7am.

George talks about the difficulty in forecasting Annapolis, how Division 1 baseball led to meteorology in Annapolis and his personal harrowing tale of the derecho a few years back!

CRABCAKE: Local Business Spotlight. The Golf Club at South River – Members Talk

Periodically, we take a look at a local businesses to give you something more than a peek in the window or a glance during a drive-by.  We will dig deep into the history,  the people, and of course the product.

This series of crabcake episodes is focused on The Golf Club at South River. Located just minutes from downtown Annapolis in Edgewater, it is a private club like no other. Believe me when I say it is NOT your father’s golf club…not by a long shot!

This week we sit down with several members and get their take! Jeremy and Raquel are a young family where all of them are involved with the club. Deb is an avid golfer who feels the club offers exactly what she needs. And Kurt is a young professional with an intense competitive streak and enjoys the friendships and connections he has made!

Celebrating 25 Years with the Schooner Woodwind (E-88)

Starting a business is tough in Annapolis. Running any business is tough–period. So when you are able to start one AND run it for 25 years, well, that’s cause for a celebration! (and a podcast)

The Schooner Woodwind, star of Hollywood movies, queen of the Wednesday night race series, the majestic twin hulled schooners tied up at City Dock–yes those schooners have been plying the waters of the Annapolis harbor for a quarter century!  Congratulations go out to Ken, Ellen, and Jen Kaye who came up with this crazy idea that worked!

Today, we talk with Jen Kaye who is the owner of the business along with her parents (who recently retired) of one of the best ways to experience Annapolis–from the water and under sail.  Listen in! And then go book a sail. They are already sailing for the 2018 season!

CRABCAKE: The Scenic Rivers Land Trust

The Scenic Rivers Land Trust (SRLT) operates within the Severn, South, Patuxent, Rhode and West River watersheds. SRLT works with landowners to create small private conservation easements as well as conservation easements on large parcels. A conservation easement is a legal agreement between a landowner and a land trust that permanently protects property through the easement deed. The owner and land trust work together to determine the amount and type of development that can take place in the future within the conservation easement deed.
This week, we sit down with SRLT President, Nina Fisher and Easement Outreach Coordinator, Sarah Knebel to talk about their mission, their vision, and their upcoming event Walk for the Woods on April 28th. Thank you to Scott MacMullan, “The Godfather of Annapolis Podcasts” and SRLT board member, for use of his office as a recording space.
