Hey..wait…that’s MY artwork you have there. A copyright chat with Joe Barsin of JEB Design (E-98)

Imagine seeing a local company sporting a great new logo only to discover that it is composed of your original artwork and was sold to the local company by a foreign firm. #Pissed

With the USNA Vs Nike/Undefeated crest war, we reached out to Joe Barsin to learn his thoughts. And we learned a LOT more! He has had his work stolen a number of times and he knows how to combat it. No lawyers are involved. From electric boats to cornhole sets.  Have a listen and definitely check out Joe Barsin from Citizen Pride and JEB Design!

Real fun episode at Mother’s Peninsula Grille in Arnold drinking beers, eating burgers and talking pirating!

Coming at You for 22 Years– Eastport A Rockin’ (E-97)

In 1997, James Borchelt had an idea. Gather 4 local bands. Have them play a street festival for free and give away the money.  Seemed reasonable. And THAT was the start of Eastport A Rockin. Maybe 700 people attended to hear The Kelly Bell Band, The Eastport Oyster Boys, Jepetto and Non-Fiction.

Now, 22 years later, it’s grown ever so slightly under the tutelage of Borchelt, and successive organizers and literally thousands of volunteers. This year…this Saturday…there will be 39 bands on 4 stages. And crowds can still dance to The Kelly Bell Band and The Eastport Oyster Boys…along with the Almighty Senators, Skribe, and plenty of your regional favorite musicians while enjoying the cool breezes off Back Creek at the Annapolis Maritime Museum.

Listen in as we talk about the history with James Borchelt, and the present and the future of Eastport A Rockin with current Director Jessica Pachler and Music Director Christina Willharm who have put together one fantastic Saturday! Volunteers are ALWAYS welcome (free admission) and tickets are available online and in advance.

What the Hell is Juuling and Why Should We Care? (E-96)

Kids will be kids, teens will be teens, and water will find its own level. For millennia, kids have experimented and tested limits, while exasperated parents have been just a step or two behind, trying to save them from themselves. The latest battle? Vaping and, more specifically, Juuling.

Cigarettes are passé. They are expensive, smelly, and easily detected by parents and teachers. Juuling is the sneakier and more insidious alternative. Is it more dangerous than smoking, though? The Crabs sit down with Dr. Stephen M. Cattaneo, MD, who is the Medical Director of Thoracic Oncology and the Division Director of Surgical Oncology at Anne Arundel Medical Center who breaks it all down for us.

Election 2018: Candidate Interviews (Primary — June 26, 2018)

As we tried to figure out how to best handle the 2018 Elections, we realized that there were entirely too many races and candidates (and way too few of us) to produce, forums, debates, and individual interviews as we had for last year’s Annapolis City elections.

So, what we decided was to look at specific races that we felt were critical, hotly contested, or just interesting to us and gave each candidate the opportunity to “pitch” us for 10 minutes. The premise was “I am a new voter, why do I vote for you?”

They could use the 10 minutes as they saw fit and could stop at any time. At the 10 minute mark–we hung up.  If you have not had a chance to hear from these candidates, please take a listen!

We reached out to every candidate multiple times and asked for 15 minutes of their time. If we do not have a recording, it is because they were non-responsive. If they contact us after publication, we will update this posting. We will be re-grouping and figuring out a plan for the general election in November. Stay tuned!

CRABCAKE: Mindfulness with Laurie Cameron (June 2018)

This is a Crabcake from The Maryland Crabs!  What is a Crabcake? Well, it’s a very short snippet of something you need to know. It might be 5 minutes long..or it might be 20. In any event, enjoy your Maryland Crabcake!

Tim decides to tackle his many, many, many issues and talk with Laurie Cameron, who wrote the book on mindfulness. Literally! Laurie is the author of The Mindful Day: Practical Ways to Find Focus, Calm and Joy, National Geographic, 2018, which integrates emotional intelligence, positive psychology, compassion and neuroscience into everyday language for modern work and life.

Laurie is also the founder and CEO of PurposeBlue – a consultancy focused on mindfulness-based leadership programs that build resilience, creativity and engagement.
