The Guinness Open Gate Brewery and Barrel House (E-141)

John sent Tim, unaccompanied, to The Guinness Open Gate Brewery and Barrel House in Halethorpe to have a pint or two with Ryan Wagner, Brewery Ambassador. Alone. Without any supervision. To a place with Guinness.

When you think Guinness, you think Extra Stout, right? You’re not wrong, but you need to hear about what the exquisite, new experimental beers coming out of the new Guinness Brewery right near BWI Airport. This brewery has a bar with it’s own two-floor museum of the history of Guinness. Ryan Wagner, takes Tim out of his comfort zone of Miller Lite to sample the newest offering from the old sod.

CRABCAKE: Sarah Sample of Seleção Futebol (June 2019)

This is a Crabcake from The Maryland Crabs!  What is a Crabcake? Well, it’s a very short snippet of something you need to know. It might be 5 minutes long..or it might be 20.  In any event, enjoy your Maryland Crabcake!

Unless you’ve been under a total media blackout over the past few weeks, you have to have noticed that women’s soccer is white-hot right now. So who better to talk to right now than local soccer maven Sarah Sample?

Sarah is one of the pros behind Seleção Futebol, a soccer program for girls by women. So what do they promise to do for young women with dreams of the pitch? “We’re gonna make you better.” That’s it in a nutshell. Today, Tim sits down with Sarah to talk about her philosophy about coaching and how their program produces strong-minded players who have the confidence to make split-second decisions both on and off the field.

The Seleção Futebol program runs August 5-9 at the Indian Creek Upper School. Click here to register.

CRABCAKE: Budweiser and Katcef Brothers is all over the Summer events! (June 2019)

This is a Crabcake from The Maryland Crabs! What is a Crabcake? Well, it’s a very short snippet of something you need to know. It might be 5 minutes long..or it might be 20….or longer in this case, because..well…beer! In any event, enjoy your Maryland Crabcake!

Today, we continue our monthly series (no set schedule other than monthly) about beer.  We have a huge distributer of beer right here in Annapolis–Katcef Brothers Inc. and they have a ton of experts on hand to de-mystify beer for us.  Now, full disclosure–I like beer! I like beer a lot!  But, I am not a beer snob and a Bud Light will suit me just fine.

This month, not so much beer; but more of the events where you can drink some beer!  Budweiser is a lead sponsor for the Chesapeake Bayhawks and will be hosting Hawk-Hours at various locations around town on Fridays before home games–first one is THIS Friday at Federal House! They are all in on the Outlaw Jam toward the end of July. Budweiser and Babe will be prominent in the Inaugural Annapolis Pride Parade and Festival and of course everywhere for your Fourth of July celebrations!

OK, OK, so we did have some beer.  In honor of the anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing 50 years ago—The new Budweiser Discovery Reserve Red Lager (man that will be a tough one to order…let’s go with “Bud, double R, L”) in the stubby bottle! And in keeping with giving back, Budweiser is donating up to $100K to Folds of Honor. Spoiler: I am not a fan of the darker beers, but this one was on point!

CRABCAKE: Thomas Point LIghthouse needs some help (June 2019)

This is a Crabcake from The Maryland Crabs! What is a Crabcake? Well, it’s a very short snippet of something you need to know. It might be 5 minutes long..or it might be 20. In any event, enjoy your Maryland Crabcake!

Hands down–the most fun I have had recording a podcast ever!  I mean really–sitting in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay IN the Thomas Point Light House…how could it be anything else?

Today, we talk with John Potvin who is a local resident that happens to be the Preservation Foreman for the US Lighthouse Society who is in charge of basically making sure the iconic landmark is in top shape!

We discuss how you can get out and INTO the lighthouse yourself (go to the Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park), the history of the lighthouse from the light keepers to the Coast Guard to today, the financial needs of the lighthouse which are many (there is a GoFund Me along with a generous matching donor), and the great group of volunteers from the Annapolis Woodworking Guild that put in more than 2000 volunteer hours every year to make sure that the lighthouse remains true to its origins.
