CRABCAKE: Valentine’s Beers and a Peek into St. Paddy’s Day (February 2019)

This is a Crabcake from The Maryland Crabs! What is a Crabcake? Well, it’s a very short snippet of something you need to know. It might be 5 minutes long..or it might be 20….or longer in this case, because..well…beer! In any event, enjoy your Maryland Crabcake!

Today, we continue our monthly series (no set schedule other than monthly) about beer.  We have a huge distributer of beer right here in Annapolis–Katcef Brothers Inc. and they have a ton of experts on hand to de-mystify beer for us.  Now, full disclosure–I like beer! I like beer a lot!  But, I am not a beer snob and a Bud Light will suit me just fine.

This month, Lauren Hamilton and Cassie Mabery joined us to talk about Valentine’s Day and St. Paddy’s Day in Annapolis.

This month, we rehash some of the SuperBowl ads (because the game was horrible), Stella Artois and the #PourItForward initiative with Water.org. We talked about new beer with hibiscus (go figure) and new summertime brew from Natural Light and #Naturdays.

Finally, we talk St. Paddy’s in Annapolis with the 5th Annual Shamrock Stroll, the Hooley, the parade and the newest addition–Shamrock the Dock!

Have a listen and get prepared!!

Come along on our beer journey!

CRABCAKE: New Year, New Beer. Winter beer, wings and the SuperBowl (January 2019)

This is a Crabcake from The Maryland Crabs! What is a Crabcake? Well, it’s a very short snippet of something you need to know. It might be 5 minutes long..or it might be 20….or longer in this case, because..well…beer! In any event, enjoy your Maryland Crabcake!

I like beer a lot!  But, I am not a beer snob and a Bud Light will suit me just fine.

This month, Lauren Hamilton joined us as always and brought along Bill Catron again and this time to talk Superbowl–Dan Valente.

This month, Lauren scores 5 out of 5 on the John approval scale with samples of Rogue’s Yellow Snow (my fave), Bold Rock Cider with Ginger and Tumeric, Victory’s Winter Cheers, Blue Point’s Shore Thing, and Goose Island’s Next Coast IPA. If I had to rank them.. Yellow Snow, Shore Thing, Winter Cheers, Next Coast. Bold Rock Cider has to be kept apart since cider is so far removed (in my mind) from beer!

Have a listen!

CRABCAKE: Porters & Stouts Oh My! Plus A Miracle on Annapolis Street! (December 2018)

This month, Lauren Hamilton joined us again and brought along Charlie Oxendine from Katcef and we’re talking Military Bowl and beer.

There is a lot of pomp and circumstance along with the Military Bowl–a few more times to nominate a hero in the Who’s Your Hero contest. A Miracle on Annapolis Street. A parade with the Clydesdales. A tailgate. A bowl game. And New Years!  And in between all that we try out some great winter beers– Devil’s Backbone Danzig, Dominion’s Morning Glory, and Victory’s Storm King.  (My vote is the Danzig) And they created this crazy concoction called a Sofierita!

Have a listen!

CRABCAKE: What’s The Deal With Fall Beers (October 2018)

This is a Crabcake from The Maryland Crabs! What is a Crabcake? Well, it’s a very short snippet of something you need to know. It might be 5 minutes long..or it might be 20. In any event, enjoy your Maryland Crabcake!

I like beer a lot!  But, I am not a beer snob and a Bud Light will suit me just fine.

This month, Lauren Hamilton joined us again and brought along Mike LeViseur from Katcef and Josh Barr from The Military Bowl!

Four years ago, Katcef came up with an idea to honor heroes in the lives of everyday people. Who’s Your Hero was born. Four years later it is kicking off again on November 11, 2018 at 1pm at Heroes Pub in West Annapolis. Budweiser has forged a new partnership with Jim Beam and created Bud Copper Lager for a limited time. And finally, Josh Barr is one of the movers and shakers of the Military Bowl and we talk about the game, the parade, the Clydesdales, and all of the excitement surrounding this New Year’s Eve event!

So this month, I sat down with Lauren Hamilton the High End Brand Manager, Bill Catron the Craft Beer Manager, and Cassie Weithman the Marketing Director to talk about fall beers! Well…and also to drink them!

These guys helped take the mystery out of beer for me and on deck today was Spaten Oktoberfest, Troegs Hop Knife, Goose Island Oktoberfest, Victory Festbier, Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale, and Elysian Night Owl.

Come along on our beer journey!
