CRABCAKE: What’s The Deal With Fall Beers (October 2018)

This is a Crabcake from The Maryland Crabs! What is a Crabcake? Well, it’s a very short snippet of something you need to know. It might be 5 minutes long..or it might be 20. In any event, enjoy your Maryland Crabcake!

Today, we start a new monthly series (no set schedule other than monthly) about beer.  We have a huge distributer of beer right here in Annapolis–Katcef Brothers Inc. and they have a ton of experts on hand to de-mystify beer for us.  Now, full disclosure–I like beer! I like beer a lot!  But, I am not a beer snob and a Bud Light will suit me just fine.

So this month, I sat down with Lauren Hamilton the High End Brand Manager, Bill Catron the Craft Beer Manager, and Cassie Weithman the Marketing Director to talk about fall beers! Well…and also to drink them!

These guys helped take the mystery out of beer for me and on deck today was Spaten Oktoberfest, Troegs Hop Knife, Goose Island Oktoberfest, Victory Festbier, Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale, and Elysian Night Owl.

Come along on our beer journey!

Liz Murphy of the Naptown Pintcast Talks Tim into Drinking (E-93)

The Maryland Crabs continues to celebrate Maryland Podcast Month with fellow Annapolis podcaster, Liz Murphy of the Naptown Pintcast! Liz forces Tim to to abandon the comfort of his safe and cozy home to enter the mysterious cavern of The 1747 Pub deep under Church Circle. There, she forbids him to drink even one single Miller Lite, instead forcing him out of his comfort zone to sample beers from the hinterlands of the Czech Republic and other former Soviet Bloc beer makers.

Between sips of brews featuring smokey undertones of chocolate and other ridiculous flavorings that have no place in beer, Liz deftly shifts the conversation from Tim, his favorite subject, to why she started a beer podcast in the first place and how wearing a pun-based Halloween costume to a job interview led her to where she is now.

If you are looking for a linear conversation that follows a single thread to a logical conclusion, you may as well abandon that idea right off the bat. Tim and Liz have the combined attention span of toast.
