Everything You Never Knew About the Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park (E-109)

Your kids may know it from a field trip. You may know it from Eastport A Rockin’ (depending on how good a time you had). It was notoriously it was flooded during Isabel in 2003. They host some kick-ass weddings. Free concerts– the Tides and Tunes and Summer Sunset Series.

But we can guarantee there’s a bunch you never knew! This week, John sits down with Alice Estrada, the Executive Director of the Annapolis Maritime Museum to dig a little deeper into this Annapolis community gem!

We have smaller Crabcake episodes that will drop whenever we damn well please!  Make sure you check out some (or all) of our previous episodes? You really should. They could change your life. Granted, your life would have to be pretty bad. But still, we have some gems you will want to check out!

Michael Hughes of MH Media Strategies…Hot Tequila Edition (E-107)

Michael Hughes is not just the marketing genius behind MH Media Strategies here in Annapolis, but he spent most of his life as a radio god with a Forrest Gump-like knack for brushes with music legends. From being served tea by Sir Paul McCartney to watching Stevie Ray Vaughn air-guitar in his living room to being flown to Germany by Roger Waters to watch the epic 1991 concert at the Berlin Wall, Michael has been sitting on a treasure trove of stories that he’s always been a bit reluctant to tell. That is, until Tim showed up at his office in Eastport one afternoon to coax those stories out, armed only with a bottle of hot tequila that had been sitting in his car all day during a heat wave. John took the day off to go to his anger management class, so there were no adults in the room to supervise this episode.

CRABCAKE: Talkin’ Eastport with Kevin Brooks from The Eastport Oyster Boys (July 2018)

This is a Crabcake from The Maryland Crabs!  What is a Crabcake? Well, it’s a very short snippet of something you need to know. It might be 5 minutes long..or it might be 20.  In any event, enjoy your Maryland Crabcake!

Today we sit down with Kevin Brooks of The Eastport Oyster Boys (not the Easter Oyster Boys) and talk all things Eastport–the MRE, the history, the Eastport Oyster boys and the soon to be happening–Eastport Brewing Company.

Thanks to Dick Franyo and The Boatyard for the Michelle Obama table and a wonderful breakfast.

Of note, this is the earliest podcast we’ve ever recorded…9am!

Hey..wait…that’s MY artwork you have there. A copyright chat with Joe Barsin of JEB Design (E-98)

Imagine seeing a local company sporting a great new logo only to discover that it is composed of your original artwork and was sold to the local company by a foreign firm. #Pissed

With the USNA Vs Nike/Undefeated crest war, we reached out to Joe Barsin to learn his thoughts. And we learned a LOT more! He has had his work stolen a number of times and he knows how to combat it. No lawyers are involved. From electric boats to cornhole sets.  Have a listen and definitely check out Joe Barsin from Citizen Pride and JEB Design!

Real fun episode at Mother’s Peninsula Grille in Arnold drinking beers, eating burgers and talking pirating!

Coming at You for 22 Years– Eastport A Rockin’ (E-97)

In 1997, James Borchelt had an idea. Gather 4 local bands. Have them play a street festival for free and give away the money.  Seemed reasonable. And THAT was the start of Eastport A Rockin. Maybe 700 people attended to hear The Kelly Bell Band, The Eastport Oyster Boys, Jepetto and Non-Fiction.

Now, 22 years later, it’s grown ever so slightly under the tutelage of Borchelt, and successive organizers and literally thousands of volunteers. This year…this Saturday…there will be 39 bands on 4 stages. And crowds can still dance to The Kelly Bell Band and The Eastport Oyster Boys…along with the Almighty Senators, Skribe, and plenty of your regional favorite musicians while enjoying the cool breezes off Back Creek at the Annapolis Maritime Museum.

Listen in as we talk about the history with James Borchelt, and the present and the future of Eastport A Rockin with current Director Jessica Pachler and Music Director Christina Willharm who have put together one fantastic Saturday! Volunteers are ALWAYS welcome (free admission) and tickets are available online and in advance.
