Jenn’s Story: Addicted at 13, In Recovery at 20 (E-47)

At 13, Jenn was living in an very upscale Annapolis neighborhood. After Middle School, she joined the IB Program at Annapolis High. She won beauty pageants. Held a job, and became an addict.

Jenn is the girl next door who ended up on the wrong road–an easy thing to do. Jenn was lucky. Some tough love from her parents, a random conversation with her boss at work, and she got off that road and onto one called recovery.

Today, in recovery for 3 years, this is Jenn’s story!

Gavin Buckley; His Vision for Annapolis in 2018 and Beyond (E-28)

Back in November, we spoke with Gavin Buckley as he was preparing to run for Mayor of Annapolis. This time, we sit down and discuss specifics for his vision for Annapolis moving into 2018 and beyond.

He feels that the City may have let down it’s residents a bit and we accidentally stumble on a fantastic idea and completely take the wind out of his sails!  (Sorry Gavin, it really was only a joke on our end!)

Keep up with the campaign at Gavin’s Facebook Page, Gavin Buckley for Mayor!

Keep an ear on The Maryland Crabs this election season in Annapolis. We plan to have all the candidates on at least once, and we will be hosting a live debate with questions from you!

And a special thanks to our sponsors this week including… Chesapeake Bay Trust, Zachary’s Jewelers, Union Jack’s and Anne Arundel Medical Center!

Thank you to everyone who wrote with suggestions for upcoming episodes. We are on it.
Coming up — Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker III and how he’s turned around a county and may have his sights set on Maryland’s top office. Travis Pastrana will be here, we will be bringing Harriet Tubman to you, an in-depth about parking and biking in Maryland, Mayor Michael Pantelides will lay out his vision for the next four years if he wins, and…. well that would spoil it…just subscribe and be surprised!

We are now on iHeartRADIO!  So if you listen to iHeartRADIO, you can listen, rate, share, subscribe, favorite right there.  Here’s the direct link!

If you are just joining us…. make sure you check out some (or all) of our previous episodes? You really should. They could change your life. Granted, your life would have to be pretty bad. But still, we have some gems you will want to check out!  Most recently….

  • Chase Cook. He’s the eyes and ears of The Capital for the City of Annapolis and he sat down and talked about the firing of the Annapolis Police Chief, the issue with public housing, undocumented residents, and the Mayor’s chance to win re-election!
  • Working the Chesapeake Bay. We sat with Mary Ewenson who is the publisher of Prop Talk and Spin Sheet and sits on the Board of the Eastport Yacht Club Foundation to talk about working on the Bay. What jobs are there now and in the future. Also the Marine and Maritime Trades Career Fair that is happening on February 25th.
  • Annapolis Mayor Mike Pantelides talks about firing long-time chief of police Mike Pristoop, some of his accomplishments in his first three years and what he might hope to accomplish in a second terms if the voters will have him again!
  • Chesapeake Bay Trust. We crabbed with the Trust to see what they are up to and to talk about how you can help them without even realizing you are helping them!
  • The Annapolis Film Festival was our guest last week. Give it a listen and see how this huge event morphed from an idea into a multi-day event drawing thousands to our little sleepy town by the Bay.

Oh hell…just go back and listen to the ones you haven’t heard!  And PLEASE be sure to tell your friends about us!

MD Governor Larry Hogan: Road Kill, Sick Leave and Just How He Manages the Job (E-17)

Larry Hogan is Maryland’s 62nd Governor with some “through the roof” approval ratings. He figured we could not do too much damage and agreed to sit down and crab with us a for a bit.

We discussed his 2017 plans–BOOST, paid sick leave and the Road Kill Bill. We talked about President-Elect Trump, and what is on his Netflix queue. Spoiler: he has YET to see House of Cards.
All in all, this is an insightful look into the Governor who took the electorate and the legislature by surprise by defeating sitting Lt. Governor Anthony Brown!

Speaker Michael Busch – Maryland in a Trump World…and More! (E-16)

Michael Busch is the Speaker of the Maryland House of Delegates and is one of the longest serving Delegates and has been the Speaker for the past 13 years.  The man knows Maryland!

This week the Crabs go on the road and talk to Speaker Busch in the Speaker’s Lounge in the Annapolis State House. As always, we have no set agenda and the conversation ran from “what the hell does a Trump presidency mean for Maryland?” to gerrymandering, to the rising stars in Maryland politics, and exactly why Delegate Herb McMillan was banned from the Governor’s Mansion. Check it out and see what one of Maryland’s top politicos has to say on The Maryland Crabs!

Pesticides on Playgrounds–AACo Councilman Trumbauer Weighs In (E-14)

mdcrabs_250x250Anne Arundel County, Maryland is an odd place. Some things make so much sense, and then…well, others not so much.

This week, District 6 Councilman, Chris Trumbauer talks to the crabs about a common sense bill that he proposed that was shot down like a flaming jug of Round-Up! He proposed that the county limit the use of pesticides on county playgrounds where children play.  Seems like a good idea, right? Find out why it failed!

We also talk about County Executive Steve Schuh’s new rural zoning proposal, the health (or not) of the Chesapeake Bay. We dig deep and find out his feelings about Kanye West (not really), and the inside scoop on what is next for this effective, term-limited politician!

A few housekeeping notes and a teaser or two.  Earlier this year, we spoke about crime in Annapolis and had Robert Eades as our guest.  He has had some surgery along with some complications and is in a bind.  If you can, check out this GoFundMe page and toss a few bucks his way. He is very much part of the fabric of Annapolis.

And coming up in the next few weeks….we are putting Annapolis Police Chief Michael Pristoop on the hot seat now that the City has seen a historic high murder rate. After that, Speaker of the House of Delegates Michael Busch, and then Governor Larry Hogan!  So, make sure you are subscribed!
