Live From The Annapolis Market House with Annapolis Fork (E-120)

It took close to two decades, but I think we can safely say that THE MARKET HOUSE IS BACK!

This week, we recorded the episode at the Annapolis Market House and brought along our friend, Cara from Annapolis Fork to run it through its paces.  Along the way we spoke with Michelle Bouchard, the grand poobah and some of the fantastic staff on hand!  But we did not stop there–oh no no… we also chatted with some folks that were there eating, shopping and drinking. Yes, drinking–you can drink in the Market House!

If you have not been–go.  But before you go–have a listen!

The Maryland Crabs Podcast is usually recorded at The Commons overlooking beautiful West Street in Annapolis. The Commons is the City’s first co-working space and it is an incredibly cool one…purely because we are there! Not really, but do check it out!

Hey, before you zone out—do us a favor. Head over to Apple Podcasts (formerly iTunes), Google Play or wherever you listen to us and leave us a rating and if you have time a comment. Not only does it elevate (or shatter) our egos, it really helps with getting the word out about this podcast. Thanks!

If you are just joining us…. every week, our full episodes drop at noon on Thursdays. We have smaller Crabcake episodes that will drop whenever we damn well please!  Make sure you check out some (or all) of our previous episodes? You really should. They could change your life. Granted, your life would have to be pretty bad. But still, we have some gems you will want to check out!

Hyper-local Winter Weather Forecast from DMV Weather (E-119)

George Young knows his weather. George Young knows Anne Arundel County. George Young is the man behind DMV Weather and the weather voice on the Eye On Annapolis Daily News Brief.

We took him to task this week to talk about the upcoming winter–yes, it is almost here. And because Annapolis and Anne Arundel County is so hard to predict, we wanted to know SPECIFICALLY what is in store for us. Curious? Have a listen to see when he thinks our first real snow might show up…how many days schools will be closed….how many significant storms we can expect—and why he thinks that!

Weather is unpredictable, and George Young goes out on a limb for us. Could we be dreaming of a white Christmas..just like the ones I used to know???

In the Basement of St. John’s with Gary Dunkelberger (E-118)

St. John’s College has a science curriculum. Yes, we know. That took us by surprise, too. But, in classic St. John’s style, they’re not going to do science like other schools. That’s where Gary Dunkelberger comes in. John ventures into Gary’s underground lair to see where he quietly toils, day in and day out, to create and fabricate ancient scientific equipment for students to explore. Science quietly collides with art in an obscure basement.

Fighting Breast Cancer: The Annapolis Dragon Boat Club (E-116)

Louise Kirk and Chandra Jackson are warriors!

Both of them are breast cancer survivors (Louise, 5 years and Chandra for 15) and both of them paddle with the Annapolis Dragon Boat Club!

In this episode (John thinks it is one of the most powerful episodes) we talk about sobering statistics (1 in 8 women will be affected). We discuss why African American women are more likely to die from it. And we talk about paddling and how it helps men and women recover.

But the Annapolis Dragon Boat Club is a lot more than helping survivors rebuild their strength. It’s about community, camaraderie, family, and surviving!

We purposely missed Breast Cancer Awareness month by a day — we should be aware of it every month–not just October!

Come along with us for a dragon boat ride for the next 50 minutes and see if you don’t agree–one of the most powerful episodes!
