The Maryland Crabs: Blame the Media? An Hour with P. Kenneth Burns (E-8)

mdcrabs_250x250

There aren’t many people a politician will not speak with. P. Kenneth Burns, a reporter for WYRP is one of them. We have him fresh off his dustup with Baltimore Mayor, Stephanie Rawlings Blake.

This time around, Tim, John, and Ken…or Kenny crab about the bull$hit ban, Baltimore politics, national politics, and how the media intersects with all of them. We talk Hogan, Blake, Senator Barb,  a guy to watch — Brandon Scott, and a bunch more.

Get some insight on the political pulse in Maryland with a reporter that has been plying this beat for years!

Hey, did you hear last week’s episode with Walter Vasquez. We crabbed about the growth of the Latino population in the area and the impact it will have on the upcoming local elections. We also figured out how that community really feels about the Crystal Spring development in Annapolis.

Did you get a chance to listen to Sean O’Neill talking about the business climate in Annapolis? Or the one where we crab about the incompetence of HACA, parking in Annapolis, and the overreach of the Historic Preservation Commission? Check them out!

TWITTER MENTIONS:

Nourishment this week was provided post interview, by the Annapolis Smokehouse and Tavern — a place you need to go to if you have not been. House-made potatoe chips are on point and horrible bad for you; but you only live once!

The Maryland Crabs: The Three Amigos…With Walter Vasquez (E-7)

mdcrabs_250x250The numbers don’t lie. The Latino community is on the rise in Annapolis and Anne Arundel County. And with elections on the horizon, they are positioned to make a big impact. This week, John and Tim speak with Walter Vasquez who is the “Godfather” for the Hispanic community in Annapolis and the proprietor of the Sin Fronteras restaurant.

Walter talks about his history, the upcoming Mayoral race and who the Hispanic community might support and why; and the proposed, ever-polarizing Crystal Spring development in Annapolis.

This episode ought to open your eyes a little bit!

The Maryland Crabs: Incompetence, Annoyance, and Overreach (E-6)

mdcrabs_250x250In this episode , John and Tim crab about Annapolis bureaucracy and power plays.

It looks like HACA has mismanaged a huge sum of money. Again. Is it incompetence or malfeasance? Is someone going to actually call them out on it?

No one likes paying for parking, which is why Tim moves his car five times a day. How is SP+ doing as the new kid on the (parking-restricted) block?

Downtown Annapolis is beautiful, to be sure. But are the folks who are in charge of keeping it that way overstepping their authority? The Historic Preservation Commission goes head-to-head with downtown restauranteur and mayoral candidate, Gavin Buckley.

The Maryland Crabs: Mind Your Own Business…With Sean O’Neill (E5)

mdcrabs_250x250In this episode of The Maryland Crabs, John and Tim, drink a few beers and crab about doing business in the City of Annapolis. They are joined by man-about-town and former president of the Annapolis Business Association, Sean O’Neill. How tough is it to open or operate a business in town? Are business owners on their own when it comes to cutting through the red tape? Does Tim start to slur towards the end of the podcast? We tackle all these questions and more in this episode of The Maryland Crabs.

Be sure to go back to listen to our prior episodes on crime in Annapolis.

A shout out to The Ebb Tide for letting us hang out with some burgers and some beers afterwards.

The Maryland Crabs: Crime in Annapolis, Living on the Edge (E4)

mdcrabs_250x250In this episode of The Maryland Crabs, John and Tim continue the conversation of crime in Annapolis and what to do to stem the tide. Jessica Pachler, a strong voice in the community was kind enough to talk to us and give us her opinion. Pachler is an Eastport mom raising a family in a home that abuts the HACA controlled Harbor House community.  She has some opinions!

If you missed it, make sure you listen to our prior episodes on crime:

Robert Eades – A view from the street from someone who has been there

Looking to get viewpoints from all sides, we have reached out to Annapolis Police Chief, Michael Pristoop and are waiting to hear if he is willing to be a guest.

A shout out to Leeward Market Cafe & Grocery for letting us hang out and talk after lunch!  If you are looking for some great food (pizza is ‘da bomb), locally sourced, prepared with love by locals….Leeward Cafe—2nd and Chester in Annapolis!
